Fees and and Govt Subsidies
Fees - How Childcare Fees Are Calculated
Childcare fees vary for each family and are calculated based on a combination of factors, including your household income, activity levels (such as work or study), the type of care your child attends, and the government subsidies you are eligible for.
The Australian Government’s Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is paid directly to the service and reduces your daily fees. The percentage of subsidy you receive is assessed by Services Australia and is based primarily on your combined family income and approved hours of activity. State-based funding programs, such as preschool or kindergarten fee-relief initiatives, may further reduce out-of-pocket costs for eligible families.
Your final fees represent the gap fee remaining after all applicable Commonwealth and state subsidies have been applied. As family circumstances can change, subsidy entitlements and fees may be adjusted throughout the year.
Government Childcare and Early Education Subsidies for Families
Families in Queensland and New South Wales can access a range of government-funded subsidies that help reduce the cost of early childhood education and care (ECEC), making quality learning and care more affordable and accessible.
At the national level, the Australian Government’s Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is the primary form of financial support for families using approved child care services, including long day care, family day care, and eligible preschool or kindergarten programs. The CCS is paid directly to your provider and reduces your out-of-pocket fees based on your household income, the type of care you use, and your activity levels (such as work, study, or volunteering). Additional support, such as the Additional Child Care Subsidy, may also be available for families in specific circumstances.
